Home Link Terms 5 & 6:

Dear Parents

Through a childs interest and the amazing TimPeake (who gave us some amazing scenes from the space station) we are going to explore space during our Summer term

We will learn about our Solar System and the eight planets (so far) – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune – Ceres, Pluto, Eris, Makemake, Haumea and Sedna are dwarf planets – we’re looking forward to all learning something this term and the children should be ready to join NASA by July!

We will be exploring - . Number recognition, floating and sinking (to represent weightlessness), volcanoes, wind, throwing and catching

We will be learning the following rhymes and songs

5 Little men in a flying saucer, The sun has got his hat on, Starlight, Star Bright

We will be looking at and reading these books (among others):

Our Solar System, Whatever Next,

You may wish to help your child by:

Looking at the moon and the stars at night – perhaps you can point out the North Star (Polaris) or The Plough (the brightest six stars of Ursa Major).

Showing how things float eg in the bath, swimming pool, sea and talk about weightlessness in space

NB Please can you provide your child with at least 2 changes of clothes, sunhats and suncream if your child is allergic to the one we provide (Boots child 50+).

Which leads us to ask - Does anyone have spare clothes for the Nursery to keep? – all of our existing stock has been used (but not returned) so we are unable to change the children from the Nursery supply.

Thank you
